The African Cup of Women 2002 ( Engl. : African Women Championship , French. : Championnat d'Afrique de football féminin ) was the third official playout of the African continental championship in women's football and found to until 21 December for the second time of 7 1998 in Nigeria . The venues were Oghara and Warri .
Host Nigeria again made use of their home advantage and became African champions for the fifth time in a row and qualified together with finalist Ghana for the 2003 Women's World Cup in the USA.
The eight qualified teams were divided into two groups of four. Within the preliminary round groups, each team plays each other once. The group winners and the group runner-up with the best points reach the semi-finals. The semi-final winners reach the final, the semi-final losers play for third place.
