The Africa Women Cup of Nations 2012 ( Engl. : African Women Championship , French. : Championnat d'Afrique de football féminin ) was the eighth official playout of the African continental championship in women's football and was held from October 28 to November 11 for the second time after 2008 in Equatorial Guinea . As four years ago, the venues were the capital Malabo and Bata . Since the first two championships were held without a final round, the CAF counts this tournament as its eighth edition.
Host Equatorial Guinea used their home advantage for the second time since 2008 and became African champions in women's football. Top scorer was also for the second time after 2008 Genoveva Añonma from the title holder Equatorial Guinea with 6 goals.
qualification
Qualified teams:
Equatorial Guinea (hosts), DR Congo , Ethiopia , South Africa , Ivory Coast , Nigeria (defending champions), Senegal , Cameroon
The teams from Ivory Coast and Senegal were able to qualify for the first time. With Ghana missing the finals, Nigeria were now the only team to have played in all of the finals so far.
mode
The eight qualified teams were divided into two groups of four teams each. Within the groups, each team plays each other once.
If several teams are tied in the group games, the results from the direct encounters decide on the placement. First the total points, then the goal difference and then the number of goals scored are compared. If this does not result in a placement, the goal difference and the number of goals scored from all group matches are used. If after that still no decision has been made, the fair play behavior of the teams decides. If two or more teams are tied here, too, the lot decides.
The group winners and runners reach the semifinals and play there in the knock-out system "crosswise" to today. The semi-final winners reach the final, the losers play for third place. From the semi-finals onwards, if the score is tied, there will be an extra time of two times fifteen minutes and if there is still no winner, a penalty shoot-out .
