The Nuevo Estadio de Malabo ( German  New Stadium of Malabo ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in Malabo , the capital of the African country Equatorial Guinea , on the island of Bioko . It was one of four stadiums for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations , which Equatorial Guinea and neighbor Gabon hosted. It was the smallest stadium in the tournament.

history

The sports facility in the Atepa district was opened in 2007 and has seating for 15,250 spectators. It was built by the French construction company Bouygues Construction. A year later, the 2008 African Football Championship for women took place in Equatorial Guinea. Among the ten tournament games played in Malabo were the two semi-finals, the game for third place and the final. In 2012, Equatorial Guinea will once again host the women's African Cup and the stadium in Malabo will host the tournament.

The stadium is almost rectangular in shape with four individual stands. The two-story main and opposite stands are covered by a roof structure made of steel scaffolding on masts and covered with a membrane . The four floodlight masts in the stadium corners are supported by floodlights integrated into the roof. The VIP boxes and the press stand are located on the upper tier of the main stand. The grandstands behind the gates are simple seating areas under the open sky.
