The Africa Women Cup of Nations 2004 ( Engl. : African Women Championship , French. : Championnat d'Afrique de football féminin ) was the fourth official playout of the African continental championship in women's football and took place from 18 September to 3 October for the second time after 2000 in South Africa .
The five-time and so far only winner Nigeria was able to triumph again and became African champions in women's football for the sixth time in a row .
mode
The eight qualified teams were divided into two groups of four. Within the preliminary round groups, each team played once against each other. The group winners and the group runner-up with the best points reached the semi-finals. The semi-final winners reached the final, the semi-final losers played for third place.
qualification
17 teams played out seven participants in the final round in two knockout rounds. Hosts South Africa were automatically qualified for the finals.
