Independent Community and Health Concern

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Independent Community and Health Concern , previously Independent Community and Health Concern (even under the short form Health Concern known or abbreviated ICHC ) is a British party , which in Kidderminster in the county of Worcestershire was founded.

The party emerged from a political campaign that opposed the closure of the Kidderminster hospital emergency department. In the 2001 general election , party leader Richard Taylor unexpectedly won the Wyre Forest constituency seat . He was the only independent in the House of Commons between 2001 and 2005 . In the general election of 2005 he was able to defend his constituency despite losing votes. Taylor benefited from the fact that the Liberal Democrats did not put up their own candidate, but recommended his election.

While the main concerns are still the National Health Service and the UK health system in general, the party is now addressing other issues as well. In the local elections in 2000, it won 16 seats on the Wyre Forest County Council, making it the strongest party. In 2004, however, she lost half of the seats to the Conservative Party . In the 2001 election to Worcestershire County Council, she won six of the 57 seats. In the 2005 elections, which took place at the same time as the general election, Health Concern lost five of these seats, so that only Taylor himself sits on the county council.

The party was unsuccessful in the 2010 general election and was defeated by the conservative candidate, 2,643 votes behind.
