Index is a large discotheque in the small town of Schüttorf in Lower Saxony . With six club areas, 27 bars and an area of ​​5000 m², it is one of the largest discos in Germany. Around 4,000 to 5,000 guests are expected on each opening day, mostly young adults. It is located in an industrial area near the Schüttorf motorway junction .

history

The brothers Holger, Klaus and Wilfried Bösch came into contact with discotheque events at a young age in their parents' restaurant Meyers in Rockstedt near Zeven . On November 14, 1988, they opened the index on about 1,200 m² in the industrial park in Schüttorf. The area has been expanded over the years. In 2006 an ice bar with a constant room temperature of minus seven degrees Celsius was integrated on 300 m² . It is considered to be the largest permanent ice bar in the world. In 2012 it was expanded to include an ice bobsleigh run. The construction of an event hall with a usable area of ​​almost 2,000 m² on the site is currently planned.

A number of world-famous artists appeared in the index or could be experienced as DJs , including Sean Paul , Lil Jon , Destiny's Child , Snoop Dogg , Boney M. , No Angels and Chaka Khan .

The singer Mickie Krause began his career in the index. In 2007 Tujamo won a DJ competition there and became a resident DJ there for several years. The DJ Dario Rodriguez played in the Goldfisch and the Mainhall in 2019.

In March 2020, the index had to close indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany . A car disco that was then set up in the parking lot led to worldwide media coverage.

The index received the discotheque entrepreneur award for the year 2007 from the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA).

Incidents

  • In September 2013, a 24-year-old man who was waiting in front of the index on the discotheque's shuttle bus was hit by a car, rolled over and seriously injured in the process.
  • On January 16, 2016, a 22-year-old man who was celebrating his birthday in the restaurant died for unknown reasons.
  • In April 2016 there was an armed attack on the Index staff by 10 to 20 partially masked people. Two people were seriously injured by a gas pistol.
  • In July 2017, the index hit national headlines after a video went viral showing a brawl on the street in front of the entrance to the area, in which some bouncers of the discotheque were also involved.
