The Infants Creek Tramway , also known as the Infants Creek Tram Line or Shantytown Steam Train , is a museum railway in the Shantytown Heritage Park , between Kumara Junction and Greymouth , on the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand .

The newly built narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of 1067 mm (3½ feet ) along a Busch-Tram route laid in the 19th century leads from the train station in Shantytown via a stop at the sawmill in Infants Creek to a 1.5 km from the starting point Terminal station where the train can be photographed very well. The trains run at regular intervals throughout the day from 9.45 a.m. The tickets are included in the entrance fee to the open-air museum located there . Passengers can get off at the sawmill to see the sluice gun , which operates four times a day .

The historic railroad cars are either from Gerty (L 508), a NZR L A class steam locomotive from 1877, built by the Avonside Engine Company in England and overhauled by NZR Hillside in Petone and New Zealand's Newmarket , or by Kaitangata , an improved F-Class from 1896.

The improved version of the F-class was similar to the F-class of New Zealand Railways (NZR). It was built for the Kaitangata Coal & Railway Co. and used on their 8 km long railway line from the coal mine near Kaitangata to the rail connection of the NZR near Stirling. After being taken over by the State Mines Department in the 1950s, the locomotive was used until the mine was closed in 1969. In February 1971 it was donated to the Shantytown Open Air Museum.

One of ten L-class locomotives built for New Zealand Railways. Sold to the Public Works Department in 1901, where it was given the number 508. The locomotive was used as a construction railway between 1903 and 1931. In 1974 the Tauranga Historic Village acquired the locomotive and operated it for 14 years until the museum closed. Shantytown acquired the locomotive with the help of a 'Lottery - Environment & Heritage Grant' and put it back into service after the general overhaul in 2002. The boiler certificate expired in 2014.

One of the best preserved Climax geared locomotives. Built for Potate Timber Co. in Matapuna near Taumarunui . Assembled in the NZ Railways workshops in Petone , sold a few years later to Pukaweka Sawmills Limited in Mananui . Use as a forest railway on the North Island, e.g. B. for Ellis & Burnand and in the 1940s at E & B's Mangapahei. Used as a shunting engine from 1852. John Melse bought it in 1968 and leased it to the Museum Society in 1971, where it was stored until 1973 when restoration began. It was put back into operation in 1980. In 1988 John Melse donated it to the Museum Society. It was decommissioned in 2002 and has been in storage ever since.
possum 1875 Steam locomotive One of the earliest locomotives built in New Zealand and the oldest fully preserved example. Built in 1875 for the NZR . When it was delivered, it was stored in Foxton . It was then sold to Butler & O'Connor, GM in 1877. After just one year, it was sold to the Public Works Department, Harbor Works. Then in 1884 to Greymouth Harbor Board and 1911 to Ogilvie's in Gladstone. It was stored in Greymouth from 1958 to 1986 when it was acquired by the Museum Society. It was stored there until restoration for the stationary exhibition began in 2009. This was completed in 2012.
Heisler Heisler Locomotive Works 1494 1924 Steam locomotive Geared locomotives are one of the few to receive from this manufacturer. Built in 1924 for Midland Saw Milling in Camerons . In 1929 it was sold to the New Forest Sawmills in Ngahere . Then in 1958 at Kangaroo Creek. It was put into storage in 1966 and acquired by the Museum Society in 1969. It was stored there until 2010 when restoration began as a stationary exhibit, which was completed in 2012.
T R 107 (TMS: TR 396)

A&G Price 176 1957 Diesel locomotive This diesel locomotive was first put into service in May 1957. During this time, the Ways and Works Department at Middleton reclassified it as W W 4733. It was later reclassified as T R 107. In 1978 it was given the new number TR 396 and was decommissioned in 2005. It was acquired by the museum association in the same year. It was used until 2007 and then restored. The general overhaul was completed in 2008 and it is now painted green with "Infants Creek Tramway" written on the bonnet. She was named Rosie .
Nattrass Nattrass Rail Tractors Ltd. Wellington 1875 Tractor with rail wheels Converted Fordson tractor. Invented and patented in November 1924 by car salesman Howard Nattrass. With it, sawmills can penetrate into areas inaccessible by horse-drawn trains.
