Inga Rhonda King

Inga Rhonda King (also I. Rhonda King *, in 1959 or 1960 in Curacao , Netherlands Antilles ) is one of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines native economist , author and diplomat . She has been the permanent representative of her country to the United Nations since September 2013 .

Origin and education

King was born in Curaçao ( Netherlands Antilles ), her family comes from St. Vincent and the Grenadines . She received a bachelor's degree in chemistry and mathematics from the State University of New York . She is also a certified auditor and certified finance manager .

Professional activities

King worked in publishing, business development and academia after completing her training . She taught English as an English teacher in China from 2002 to 2003 and was named Teacher of the Year by the Mayor of Jiangdu . She worked on the development and implementation of math summer programs for student exam preparation. She volunteered as a math teacher to teach disadvantaged children in Miami .

In 2006, King founded Strategy Forum Inc., an independent publisher of illustrated books.

In 2010 she was appointed Honorary Consul for Portugal . Also in 2010 she was appointed to the board of the national investment promotion agency in her country, and in 2011 she took over the chairmanship.

Political and diplomatic work

Inga Rhonda King was appointed Permanent Representative of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to the United Nations on September 13, 2013 by Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves . There she appeared as a representative of the so-called L.69 Group , an association of 49 developing countries from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific region.

On September 29, 2016, King was elected Chair of the UN General Assembly's Budget Committee. On April 27, 2017, in a speech to the General Assembly, she called for a " World Creativity and Innovation Day" to be included in the series of UN commemorative days with special concerns.

From July 26, 2018 to July 25, 2019, King was the 74th President of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations . Her successor was the Norwegian Mona Juul .

Private

Published in 2003 King an autobiographical collection of essays under the title Journal of a Superfluous Woman (dt. Diary of a superfluous woman ), in which it from the experience with their breast cancer reported disease infection.

She later described how her health problems had led to a major upheaval in her life: “I had less and less interest in designing, analyzing or establishing systems for organizations and more and more interest in changing ways of thinking or closing the systems in human consciousness change and develop methods that enable new insights. Understanding how we process information or how we think and why we think the way we do it is of paramount importance for the success of any project and for leading a good life. "
