Inga alba is a species of tree from the subfamily of the mimosa family (Mimosoideae). It is native to Central and South America.

description

Inga alba is a tree up to 40 meters tall with strong red bark . The almost bare leaves are pinnate four to five, rarely three to six pairs of pinnate, the outermost pair reaches a length between 6.1 and 10, rarely up to 15.5 centimeters and a width of 2.5 to 7.7 centimeters . The rachis is 5 to 13.5 inches long and wingless. The glands are cone-shaped, the stipules decrepit.

The inflorescences are short, axillary ears , the stem is 4 to 20 millimeters long, the rachis 5 to 8 millimeters long. The flowers are pale green, the stamens white. The flat fruits are up to 14 inches long and 2 inches wide.

distribution

The species is found from Mexico to Peru and central Brazil, where it is common.

Systematics and botanical history

The species was first described by Olof Swartz as Mimosa alba in 1788 and placed in the genus Inga by Carl Ludwig von Willdenow in 1806 .
