Inga umbellifera is a species of tree from the subfamily of the mimosa family (Mimosoideae). It is native to Central and South America.

description

Inga umbellifera is an increasingly balding tree up to 20 meters high with gray and brown speckled bark . The leaflets are pinnate two to three, rarely simply paired, the leaflets lanceolate to elliptical. The outermost pair of leaflets is 6 to 20 centimeters long and 2.8 to 7.5 centimeters wide, the innermost 3.3 to 7.6 centimeters long and 1.8 to 3.3 centimeters wide.

The bald petiole is usually winged, the 1.3 to 3.5 centimeter long leaf hachis weakly winged or cylindrical in cross-section with simply paired pinnate leaves. The glands are very large and flat or pan-shaped. The stipules are 2 to 6 millimeters long, permanent or obsolete.

The umbel-shaped inflorescences arise from the leaf axils or the axils of non-developed leaves. The shaft is 1 to 5 centimeters long and hairy, fluffy rust-red, the rachis 1.5 to 4 millimeters long. The flowers are pale green, the stamens white. The flat and curved, bare fruits are 6 to 12 inches long and 1.5 to 2.5 inches wide.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 26.

distribution
