Inge Gürtzig

Inge Gürtzig (born September 7, 1935 in Rostock ) is a German illustrator , graphic artist , comic artist , caricaturist and children's book author .

Life

Gürtzig first studied painting at the college for applied arts in Heiligendamm , but then switched to the art college in Berlin-Weißensee , where she graduated as a graphic designer. After completing her studies, she started working as a freelance artist in 1961.

The Berlin children's book publisher discovered them early on. However, she also worked for other publishers in the GDR , such as the Junge Welt publishing house and the Pössneck publishing house for teaching aids . She also created illustrations and caricatures for the press, such as the youth magazine Atze , the children's magazines ABC-Zeitung and Bummi, as well as for daily newspapers and other magazines. The catalog of the German National Library now lists almost 200 publications in which Gürtzig was involved as an illustrator and author, including more than 100 books.

From the early 1980s there were annual summer stays in the Baltic Sea resort of Ahrenshoop on Fischland-Darß-Zingst of the Gürtzigs, where one was also artistically active. The book “Darßwandern. From the diary of an Ahrenshoop hiking guide. ”By Ursula Brandt was illustrated by Inge Gürtzig and her husband Erich Gürtzig (1912–1993), who also designed numerous books himself and with whom she also worked on several other publications or for events in kindergartens and schools and visited libraries.
