Fischland-Darß-Zingst is a 45 kilometer long peninsula on the Baltic Sea coast between Rostock and Stralsund .

It separates the Darß-Zingster Boddenkette from the open Baltic Sea. The south-western section of the peninsula is formed by the Fischland , followed by the Darß , which is followed by the Zingst peninsula to the east . For a relatively short time, the Großer Werder has been part of the peninsula chain due to siltation. The Darß already belongs to Western Pomerania , while Fischland historically belongs to the Mecklenburg part of the country . The border runs along the Grenzweg in Ahrenshoop .

The peninsula is subject to constant changes in geomorphology . The Fischland is largely a "removal coast", which is stabilized by means of hydraulic engineering interventions so that the traffic routes are not broken. The sands washed off there are transported by currents in an easterly direction as a beach shift along the coastline and deposited on the Great Werder in the form of a spit .

The municipalities of Wustrow , Ahrenshoop and Born are located on Fischland-Darß-Zingst . Darß , Wieck a. Darß , Prerow and Zingst . The northernmost point of the peninsula is Darßer Ort with its lighthouse .

history

In historical times the core of Fischland as well as the Darß and Zingst islands were. Only the closure of flood channels by humans in the 14th century (Fischland and Darß) and in the 19th century (Zingst) connected them permanently to the mainland.

When the Baltic storm floods in 1872 , which also flooded Prerow on the Darß, the Prerower Strom silted up , which until then had separated the then island of Zingst from the Darß. In 1874 the Prerow river was finally filled in and secured with a dike; This made Zingst a peninsula.

The eastern part of the Zingst peninsula and the central part of the Darß are parts of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park .
