The Ingolstadt – Kralupy – Litvínov Pipeline is a crude oil pipeline from the Vohburg tank farm on the Danube in Bavaria to the central Czech crude oil tank farm Nelahozeves near Prague . Another name for this pipeline is 'MERO IKL Pipeline' analogous to the operator of Central European Crude Oil Pipeline (MERO).

History and route

Course of the route of the ICL

The original plan actually provided for a route from Ingolstadt via Kralupy to Litvínov - Záluží , but was changed; however, the name was retained, even if the pipeline does not cross the three locations.

The pipeline runs over a total of 344 km, 179 km of which in Bavaria, with a diameter of 28 inches (DN 700) from Vohburg an der Donau to Nelahozeves. In this way it crosses the rivers Ilm, Abens, Danube (at river kilometer 2358.72), Regen and Schwarzach in Germany and crosses the low mountain range Bavarian Forest and Upper Palatinate Forest before reaching the territory of the Czech Republic near Waidhaus .

The building permit was granted at the end of 1994. The official opening ceremony took place on March 13, 1996. The oil transported by the IKL reaches the Vohburg tank farm via the Transalpine Oil Pipeline (TAL). The Vohburg pumping station provides the necessary operating pressure and, together with the pipeline, this results in an annual crude oil transport capacity of 10 million tons.

The pipeline is owned by the Czech joint-stock company MERO ČR, a. s owned by the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic. MERO Germany AG, wholly owned by MERO ČR, a. s, is the German operating company of the Central European Crude Oil Pipeline.

In 2008, another pumping station near Benešovice was put into operation. Its purpose is to increase the pipeline's transport capacity from 10 million tons to 11.5 million tons per year. For this purpose, a pumping station was built and connected next to the route. The pumping station consists of two pig sluices and three pumps with an electrical output of 1.45 MW each.
