Iniquity ( English : Frevel) was a Danish technical death metal band from Copenhagen , which was founded in 1989, disbanded in 2003. In 2013 the band reunited and played a limited number of gigs.
history
The band was formed in 1989 and consisted of singer and bassist Martin Rosendahl, guitarists Brian Eriksen and Jens Lee and drummer Jesper Frost Jensen. This was followed by the publication of the demo Words of Despair in 1991, which was followed by the next demo Entering Deception in 1992 . The band could also be heard on various samplers. The group reached their first contract in 1995 with Emanzipation Productions . The band then went to the Borsing Studio with producer Jan Porsing to record the debut album Serenadium . However, the recordings were delayed for various reasons. Meanwhile, Emanzipation Productions was bought by Diehard Music , so that Emanzipation Productions only acted as a sub-label. The album was released in the summer of 1996. In 1997 the singer and guitarist Mads Haarløv and the drummer Jacob Olsen left the band to form the group Swollen. In 1998 Rosendahl and Lee left the band. After Swollen split up, Haarløv came back to the band, while bassist Thomas Fagerlind joined them. In November 1997 the group recorded four new songs under the direction of Lars Schmidt in the Soundzone Studio. Three of these songs came from a Swollen demo from 1998. The recordings were mixed by Jacob Hansen . Meanwhile, Emanzipation Records had founded a new label for independent music, which was called Mighty Music , about which the EP The Hidden Lore was released in May 1998 . After further line-up changes, the group returned to the studio in May 1999 to record the album Five Across the Eyes under the direction of Jacob Hansen. The album was released through Decade Records , with the record in Latin America through Pavement Music and in the USA through Pavement Music . Then the guitarist Brian Eriksen left the band and was replaced by Kræn Meier. The next album called Grime , which was mixed in the Aabenraa Studio and under the direction of Jacob Hansen, was released in 2001. The song The Bullet's Breath was used for the Flash animation Growl Karaoke . In early 2003, the compilation Iniquity Bloody Iniquity followed on Mighty Music, which consisted of old demo recordings and new material. In the same year the group disbanded. In April 2011 singer and guitarist Brian Petrowsky died. In 2013, on the 15th birthday of the EP The Hidden Lore and ten years after the breakup, the group got back together and consisted of drummer Jesper Frost Jensen, guitarists Jens Lee and Brian Eriksen and bassist and singer Martin Rosendahl . The group played a limited number of appearances and broke up again.
style
In a heavy metal report, Björn Friedetzky assigned the band on The Hidden Lore to Technical Death Metal. According to Jesper Frost Jensen, who also spoke in this report, the members were influenced by various artists. Guitarist Lee was heavily influenced by Carcass . According to Martin Wickler from Metal Hammer, the group on Five Across the Eyes plays playful and lyrically demanding, varied Death Metal, which does not need to shy away from the comparison to American Death Metal bands. Iniquity's music would even surpass this. According to Anzo Sadoni from Metal Hammer , the music on Iniquity Bloody Iniquity , which includes a cover version of Pestilence , is technically very demanding. The singing is extremely deep and guttural .
