The city ​​center is one of 18 districts of the Lower Saxony university town of Göttingen . It is located in the center of Göttingen and includes the historic city center and the adjacent areas Bahnhof-Ost (up to the railway line), Deutsches Theater (up to Nikolausberger Weg and Bühlstraße) and Albanikirchhof (up to Schildweg).

The only direct neighbors of the city center are Göttingen city districts, namely - clockwise from the west - Weststadt , Nordstadt , Oststadt and Südstadt .

In the city center, 10,805 people live on an area of ​​1.49 km² (as of the end of 2018). In terms of area, the city center is the smallest district of Göttingen.
