Intel 4 series
The Intel 4 series is a mainboard chipset series from Intel Corporation . This is the successor to the Intel 3 series and the last series for Socket 775 (desktops) or Socket P (notebooks) .
description
The X48 chipset was presented as the first chip in the Intel 4 series on March 4, 2008 at CeBIT in Hanover . However, the X-48 is a new edition of the X38 chipset , to which official support for DDR3-1600 and a front side bus of 1600 MHz have been added. The latter is necessary for the operation of the Core 2 Extreme QX9770 processor , which officially can only be used on an X48 chipset. Because the X48 still uses the Bearlake core, it is the only chipset in the Intel 4 series that is still manufactured using the older 90 nm process. Intel was criticized for the naming, because from a technical point of view the name X39 would have been more appropriate.
On July 4th, 2008 at Computex in Taipei , Intel officially presented the first Eaglelake chips, P45 and P43. These were the first motherboard chipsets from Intel, which were manufactured using the 65 nm manufacturing process. The P45 and P43 replaced the P35 and P31 of the previous generation and introduced support for PCI-Express 2.0 to the mainstream sector for the first time. Intel increased the maximum memory capacity of 8 to 16 GB and sat as a Southbridge the new ICH10 a. The features "Extreme Memory Profile" (XMP) and "Intel Extreme Tuning", which were previously reserved for the high-end sector, were introduced on the P45.
