International Cycling Film Festival
The International Cycling Film Festival ( Polish: Międzynarodowy Festiwal Filmów Rowerowych ), also the International Festival of Bicycle Films, is a festival for short films that have the bicycle as their theme or as an important subject . It takes place annually at six permanent venues in Germany, Poland, Austria and the Netherlands and gives numerous guest performances in Europe. His film award, the Golden Crank, is considered the oldest award for bicycle films worldwide.
history
Early years
The ICFF was founded in December 2005 under the name "International Festival of Cycling Videos". The debut took place a few months later, on September 1st and 2nd, 2006, at the Bochum Club Goldkante. On two evenings, 17 short films about bicycles from five countries were shown and the first Golden Crank was awarded. Due to the increase in the number of visitors in the early years, the ICFF moved in 2009 to the much larger Flottmann halls in neighboring Herne . They still form the central location of the festival today. A year later, the festival was renamed to the current name “International Cycling Film Festival”.
Cooperation with Poland and the Netherlands
In 2011, the ICFF began a cooperation with the Silesian Bicycle Initiative ( Polish: Śląska Inicjatywa Rowerowa ), Czestochowa , and later with the Miasta dla Ludzi Foundation, Katowice. Various guest performances in Poland resulted from this cooperation. The city of Krakow has been a permanent location for the festival since 2013 , which has been supported by the local Goethe Institute for several years . In 2015 and 2016, the German Consulate General in Krakow acted as patron of the entire festival.
Due to its contribution to cycling culture, the festival was awarded second place in the competition for the German Bicycle Prize in 2016 ; The German Bicycle Prize is considered to be the highest award given to projects promoting cycling and cycling culture.
Other partners of the festival are the Oude Rooms Katholieke Ziekenhuis, Groningen, Netherlands and the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation , Wiesbaden, in whose cinemas the ICFF's annual program is shown.
In addition to its permanent locations, the ICFF has numerous guest performances at home and abroad. In 2017 the festival will be guest in various German cities, including Munich , Mainz , Wiesbaden , France ( Lille , Roubaix ), the Netherlands ( Amersfoort ) and Poland in Katowice . Over the summer of 2017, the ICFF is on a tour through Russia, which opened at the Goethe-Institut Moscow and the German Embassy in Moscow at the end of June . Other venues for the tour include St. Petersburg , Yekaterinburg and Krasnoyarsk .
Awards
The Golden Crank is the festival's highest film prize, which is awarded annually by a jury of film and bicycle experts for the best bicycle film. The Golden Crank is considered to be the Oscar for bicycle film, it is the world's first prize that was awarded for bicycle films.
In 2018, the Souvenir Albert Richter Prize was awarded for the first time for the best cycling film.
