The International Rectifier Corporation was an American manufacturer of power semiconductors and integrated circuits . The headquarters were in the small town of El Segundo in the state of California . In 2014 it was taken over by the German company Infineon .
Company history
The company was founded in 1947 in Inglewood ( Los Angeles County / California) by Eric Lidow and moved to El Segundo in 1962. In the early years of the company's activities was in the then emerging rectifier (Engl. Rectifier ) based on semiconductors , also the company name of which is derived. Significant developments included:
- 1954: Mass production of the first commercial rectifier from the semiconductor material germanium .
- 1959: Invention of the silicon- based rectifier .
- 1974: Development of the glass passivation process for power transistors .
- 1979: Start of production of the first hexagonal MOSFET (Hexfet)
- 1983: First commercial IC for intelligent voltage regulation
- 2000: FlipFET production technology is ready for the market
- 2002: DirectFET design
- 2014: Contract signed for acquisition by Infineon for $ 3 billion, which was closed in January 2015.
