history

In 1931 Catholic entrepreneurs from the Netherlands , Belgium and France came together to form the "International Conference of the Association of Catholic Entrepreneurs". Germany , Italy and what was then Czechoslovakia held observer status. The entrepreneurs and executives had set themselves the goal of committing themselves to Christian social teaching , which was based on the encyclical Rerum Novarum . After the Second World War , UNIAPAC developed beyond the European countries also in Latin America . The Union got its current name in the 1960s after the Second Vatican Council and expanded its activities in Asia and Africa . "Dialogues" have been held between the Church and multinational corporations since 1975 .

Self-image

UNIAPAC sees itself as a forum for exchanges and encounters between companies and managers . In doing so, they intend to help members connect entrepreneurial dynamism and economic needs. They want to convey a philosophy that is based on Catholic social teaching and they want to promote initiatives that are suitable to achieve the given goals. In order to implement its efforts, which in the meantime have been expanded to include ecumenical objectives, the association organizes seminars , holds colloquia and congresses and publishes studies and specialist publications. UNIAPAC is actively involved in the discussion about debt relief in third world countries .

Organization and dissemination

The member associations include national and international Christian company organizations based on ecumenical understanding. The decision-making and orientation function is performed by the board of directors, which consists of the president, the vice-presidents, the chairmen of the member associations and four church assistants . On the proposal of the President, the Board of Directors elects a General Secretary to head the General Secretariat. Another organ is the planning committee; a general assembly is held at regular intervals.

UNIAPAC consists of 32 member associations (as of 2014) from 25 countries, of which Africa, North America and Asia have one association each, Europe 13 associations and South America 9 associations. The Association of Catholic Entrepreneurs (BKU) is affiliated from Germany , while Switzerland is represented by the Association of Christian Entrepreneurs .
