The Mars probe of NASA Viking-2 is returning to Earth contrary to plan. She is saved in the desert. When the probe was used by scientists Dr. Case Montgomery and Dr. Gracia Scott is examined, an alien is discovered on board. The being caused the probe to return.
The alien escapes and kills numerous people. The US Army is fighting it.
