Ioannis Lagos
Ioannis Lagos (born September 7, 1972 in Perama ) is a Greek right-wing extremist who was a member of the neo-Nazi party Chrysi Avgi (XA, Golden Dawn) until 2019 . He was a member of the Greek Parliament from 2012 to 2019 and has been a member of the European Parliament since 2019 .
Life
Lagos worked as an insurance agent, club guard and bodyguard on ships plying the Somali coast. He joined the Golden Dawn, became the bodyguard of its leader Nikolaos Michaloliakos and one of its closest collaborators.
He was elected to the Greek parliament for the first time in the general election in Greece in May 2012 . In the early parliamentary elections in June 2012 , January 2015 and September 2015 he was confirmed in parliament.
In September 2013 he was temporarily arrested along with a group of other Golden Dawn activists for their involvement in the murder of left-wing rapist Pavlos Fyssas . It was after eighteen months in March 2015 the detention dismissed. Together with Michaloliakos and other XA politicians, he is accused of forming a criminal organization . He was forbidden to leave the country for the duration of the trial.
After the successful European elections in 2019 , he moved to the European Parliament . He was allowed to travel to Strasbourg or Brussels , the workplaces of the European Parliament, subject to certain conditions. After the Golden Dawn missed re-entry into parliament in the parliamentary elections in Greece in 2019 , he left the party.
