Iolu Johnson Abil (* 1942 in Lauaneai on Tanna ) is a Vanuatu politician and former President of the Republic of Vanuatu .

Iolu Abil, also Iolu Abbil , worked for the British colonial administration from 1964. After Vanuatu was granted independence in 1980, he was Minister (Ministry of Lands) from 1980 to 1984. Later he went into the private sector.

On September 2, 2009, he was elected president by an electoral committee consisting of 52 members of parliament and the 6 presidents of the provincial parliaments in the third ballot to succeed Kalkot Mataskelekele and was sworn in on the same day. He held this office until September 2, 2014, before being replaced by interim president Philip Boedoro and President Baldwin Lonsdale , who has been in office since September 22, 2014 .
