Philip Boedoro

Philip Moris Tambe Vanua Boedoro (born May 21, 1958 ) is a Vanuatu politician of the Vanua'aku Pati (VP), who was acting president of Vanuatu between September 2 and 22, 2014 .

Life

Boedoro, who comes from the island of Maéwo , first worked as a police officer after attending school and later as the owner of his own security company. In 2002 he was elected member of parliament for the Vanua'aku Pati (VP) for the first time and represented the constituency of Maéwo until 2004 . He also served as Minister for Comprehensive Reform Programs in the first government of Prime Minister Edward Natapei between June 3, 2002 and July 29, 2004 .

In 2008 Boedoro was re-elected member of parliament for the VP and represented the constituency of Maéwo until 2016 . On March 23, 2013, he was elected Speaker of Parliament and held the office of President of Parliament until June 16, 2015. In addition, he was chairman of the Constitutional Committee. On September 2, 2014, he succeeded the then incumbent President Iolu Abil as acting president of Vanuatu . On September 22, 2014, he handed over the office of President to Baldwin Lonsdale , who had previously received the necessary two-thirds majority of 46 of the 52 MPs for the election of the President after eight ballots .
