Baldwin Lonsdale
Baldwin Jacobson Lonsdale (born August 21, 1948 in Mota Lava , Vanuatu , † June 17, 2017 in Port Vila ) was a Vanuatu politician , Anglican clergyman and president of the island state from September 22, 2014 until his death .
Life
Baldwin Lonsdale was General Secretary of Torba Province on Mota Lava Island before he was elected President. His election was the longest in the history of the state, it took eight ballots before Lonsdale was finally able to unite the necessary two-thirds majority with 46 of the 58 seats. On June 17, 2017, Lonsdale suffered a heart attack and died in the hospital as a result that same day.
