Onneyn Tahi

Onneyn Tahi (* 1944 ; † 1998 in Ambae ) was the incumbent president of Vanuatu from January 12 to 30, 1989 .

Tahi, who mostly belonged to the socialist party "Vanua'aku Party (VP)", was one of the signatories of the 1980 Declaration of Independence. On January 12, 1989, he succeeded Ati George Sokomanu as President until Frederick Karlomuana Timakata took over the presidency on January 30 , 1989 January 1989. Before that he was Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.

After his brief presidency, he was later President of the Legislative Assembly, Minister of Education and Minister of Finance. In 1994 he was one of the founders of a split from the VP, the People's Democratic Party , but returned to the VP in 1997 before the parliamentary elections the following year. He died shortly before the election of the consequences of a car accident on the island of Ambae .
