The Ionis is a ferry of the Greek shipping company Leve Ferries which entered service in 1977 . The ship has been in service since 2017 on the route from Piraeus via Gythio to Kythira and Kastelli .
history
The Ionis was built under hull number 66 at Savvas Shipyard SA in Elefsina and was delivered to Eptanissiaki AE Thalassion in August 1977. The commissioning took place in the same month on the route between Patras , Zakynthos , Symi , Kefalonia and Brindisi .
After eight years of service, Elliniki Aktoploia became the new owner of the ship in 1985. The home port remained Patras, but from then on the Ionis called at Sami , Ithaka , Paxos and Corfu . After another change of ownership to Seven Islands Lines in 1990, Brindisi became the ship's destination port again.
Between 1991 and 1993 the Ionis lay unemployed in Durrës before it was bought by the Greek shipowner D. Tyrogalas. This put them from 1994 from Kyllini to Zakynthos and from 1998 to Argostoli . In 1999 the ship started sailing between the Cyclades .
The Ionis has been chartered by Strintzis Lines since 2000 and used between Kyllini, Poros on Kefalonia and Argostoli. The ship remained on this route until June 2012, after which it was unemployed in Zakynthos. In January 2013, the Ionis went to Ionian Ferries, which they used for the service from Patras via Kefalonia to Ithaca.
Leve Ferries has been the owner of the ship since January 2016, which has since been in service between Piraeus and Aegina . From October 27, 2017, the Ionis took over the route from Piraeus via Gythio to Kythira and Kastelli (Crete).
