description

Ipomoea chilopsidis is a 2 to 5 m high shrub with hairless branches that become runny when dry . The leaf blades are linear, pointed in front and at the base, with entire margins, 10 to 20 cm long and 0.5 to 1.3 cm wide. Eighteen to thirty side veins extend from each side of the midrib. At the base of the midrib, 1 mm long glands are formed on the underside. The leaf stalks are 0.5 to 1.2 cm long and hairless.

The inflorescences are terminal on not reducing branches. They are zygomatic and consist of one to three flowers . The inflorescence stalks arise from the axilla of a non-reduced leaf, they are 0.4 to 2.2 cm long and hairless. The bracts are not permanent. The flower stalks are 1.5 to 2.2 cm long and a little runny after drying. The sepals are leathery, 12 to 16 mm long, 7 to 9 mm wide, ovate, blunt or pointed towards the front. They are of the same shape or the outer ones are slightly smaller than the inner ones. The outside is hairless, the inside is hairy short. The crown is 8 to 9.5 cm in length and 8 to 9 cm in diameter. It is funnel-shaped, hairless and white with a purple throat. It is strongly twisted in the bud . The stamens are 50 to 55 mm long, the anthers 8 to 9 mm. At the base they are covered with 1 to 1.5 mm long, glandular trichomes.

The fruits are two-chamber, four-lobed capsules with 18 to 20 mm long valves. The seeds are hairy long on the back edges and sparsely hairy on the front edges.

Occurrence

The species is only known from a few collections, all of which come from northern Mexico .
