Ipomoea leucotricha is a plant type from the genus of Morningglory ( Ipomoea ) from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The species is common in America .

description

Ipomoea leucotricha is a twining plant that is covered with thick silvery-silky hairs except for the surface of the leaves and the crown . The leaves are long stalked , circular-heart-shaped and 7 to 12 cm long and 6 to 10 cm wide. The leaf margin is entire or seldom lobed, the leaf surface is green in color and only sparsely hairy.

The inflorescence stalks are longer than the leaves, they carry a multitude of flowers . The bracts are linear-lanceolate and 6 mm long. The flower stalks have a length of 1 to 2 cm. The almost identically shaped sepals are 6 mm long, elongated, egg-shaped and have a stiff tip bent back at the top. The crown is 5 to 7 cm long, 2.5 mm wide at the throat and purple in color. The outside is silky hairy except for the fold in the middle of the petals. The ovary is hairless.

distribution

The species is found in southeastern Mexico, Guatemala , Nicaragua and Costa Rica and grows at altitudes between 900 and 1200 m.

Systematics

Within the genus of morning glories ( Ipomoea ), the species is classified in the section Eriospermum of the subgenus Eriospermum , but without being assigned to a series within this section.
