Ipomoea nationis is a plant from the genus of Morningglory ( Ipomoea ) from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The species is common in Peru.

description

Ipomoea nationis is a tuber-forming morning glory. Their stems are occasionally hairy with soft bristles at the base, otherwise the plant is predominantly hairless. The stems can be very elongated. The leaf stalks of the leaves are 5 to 10 cm long, the leaf blades are membranous, heart-shaped, pointed, almost entire and 8 to 12 cm long. The arches of the leaf base are deep but also wide.

The inflorescences are usually three- flowered , the inflorescence stalks are significantly longer than the leaves. The flower stalks are thickened, slightly glandular and 1 to 2.5 cm long. The sepals are egg-shaped, pointed and prickly; they reach a length of about 12 mm. The crown is salver-shaped, the corolla tube is cylindrical and 5 to 7 cm long, greenish or yellow in color and finely hairy. The coronet protrudes horizontally, has a diameter of 5 cm and is colored bright orange-scarlet. The almost round corolla lobes are each occupied by the central fold with spikes. The stamens are clearly beyond the crown, the pen but only slightly. The scar is two-spherical.

The fruits are spherical, four-chambered capsule fruits , on which the permanent sepals are close.

distribution

The species is widespread in Peru near Lima and is also cultivated there.
