Irén Lovász

Irén Lovász (born April 11, 1963 in Karcag ) is a Hungarian folk singer.

life and career

Lovász studied linguistics and literature. From 1987 to 1995 she worked as an ethnomusicologist at the Ethnographic Museum Budapest and also attended lectures on ethnology. She has been active in the dance house movement since the 1980s, winning folk music competitions in Hungary, Wales and Finland.

In 1995, on behalf of the Hungarian National Museum, she produced her first solo CD Világfa with music by László Hortobágyi . For her CD Rosebuds in a Stoneyard , released in 1996 , she received the quarterly prize of the German Record Critics for the third quarter of 1996 in the folk / world music genre. She worked as a soloist in groups for early music , interpreted contemporary compositions and performed with jazz musicians such as guitarist Ferenc Snétberger . In 1997 she performed at the largest German festival for folk and world music, the Tanz & FolkFest in Rudolstadt , Thuringia .

Between 1998 and 2003 she was part of the Makám group . The albums Skanzen (1999), 9 Colinda (2001) and Sindbad (2002) were created based on compositions by Zoltán Krulik . The Estonian composer Peeter Vähi wrote the music for the CD Supreme Silence (2000) on Tibetan and Sanskrit texts for her.

From 1999 Lovász was a member of the folk group Teagrass for a few years , with which the album Wide is the Danube was created in 2000 . From 2001 she performed with the lutenist István Kónya with a program of Hungarian Renaissance music and participated in a musical meditation project with the double bassist Attila Lõrinszky . In 2003 she was named singer of the year by the Hungarian radio. In 2005 the CD Cloud doors was released .

Since then she has released a new music series Healing Voices on her own label Sirenvoices: The Sacred Voice (2006), Inner Voice (2007) have already appeared in this series, as has Flower in Love (2008) and the revision of Világfa (2009).
