Irada Azad gizi Aliyeva ( Azerbaijani İradə Azad qızı Əliyeva ) (born December 27, 1991 in Baku , Azerbaijan ) is an Azerbaijani Paralympic athlete competing in the F12 category . She became the 2015 World Cup winner and represented her country at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro , where she won a silver medal in the javelin throw .

Life and athletic career

Irada Aliyeva was born in Baku in 1991 into a sports family. Aliyeva's mother was a cyclist and motorcycle athlete and her grandmother was an acrobat. She originally wanted to play volleyball professionally , but was unable to improve her performance accordingly. Instead, she chose the javelin throw as the main discipline. Irada went to high school number 310, and then the Academy of Sports and Physical Culture in Baku. From 2005 he competed in sports, but then took a sporting break from 2009 to 2014.

In 2015 she took part in the first European games in Baku in the javelin throw and took 10th place there with a throwing distance of 36.99 meters. In the same year she won the Grand Prix Championship in Tunisia and the javelin throw in Baku. In October 2015, Irada Aliyeva won the gold medal in javelin throwing at the 2015 World Athletics Championships for the disabled in Doha , where he set a new world record with a width of 44.18 meters. In doing so, she fulfilled the requirements for participation in the 2016 Paralympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro. There she threw a spear in the best attempt in category F12 / 13 at 42.58 meters and thus won the silver medal.

In September 2016, Aliyeva was awarded the Şöhrət Order III for Services to the Fatherland by decree of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, for her achievements at the 2016 Paralympic Games and for her contribution to the development of Azerbaijani sport .
