Irena Česneková
Irena Česneková (born May 2, 1972 in Třebíč ) is a former Czech biathlete .
Career
Cesneková is a married sports teacher from Třebíč. She has been running biathlon since 1983 and started for SKP Jappenx . The Czech made her World Cup debut in 1992 in an individual in Pokljuka , which she finished in 18th. In the same season she reached her best World Cup placement in Kontiolahti as fourth in an individual. After her first season, she finished 17th in the overall World Cup, her best position in this ranking of her career. The next season she started in Lillehammer in her first of four Olympic Games. She was 50 in singles. In 1995 she took part in her first biathlon world championships in Antholz . Until 2005 she started in all wide world championships. She achieved her best World Cup placement as 15th in 1999 in an individual at Holmenkollen . In 2005, she just missed a medal as fourth in the Czech mixed relay, which also included Kateřina Holubcová , Roman Dostál and Michal Šlesingr . Cesneková celebrated her only World Cup victory with Holubcová, Eva Háková and Jiřina Pelcová in the Czech relay, which won in Kontiolahti in 1997.
At several European championships Cesneková could win international medals. In 2000 she won relay silver in Zakopane , in 2002 in Kontiolahti bronze in singles, in 2003 again relay silver in Forni Avoltri and in 2005 relay bronze in Novosibirsk . After her fourth Olympic Games in Turin in 2006 (67th in the individual) Cesneková ended her career in the World Cup after 14 years.
