Irene Prüfer Leske

Irene Prüfer Leske (* 1944 ) is a Spanish linguist and translation scholar of German origin. She teaches and researches as a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities at the University of Alicante in the field of translation and interpreting .

Life

Irene Prüfer Leske graduated from Heidelberg University in March 1969 with a degree in Romance and German . She then worked in Argentina from 1970 to 1975 and as a translator, interpreter and German teacher from 1975 to 1993.

In 1985 she gained at the University of Valencia , the Licenciatura in Anglo German. With her dissertation La traducción de las partículas modales del alemán al español y al inglés ("The translation of the German modal particles into Spanish and English"), she obtained a doctorate in English at the University of Alicante in September 1993 , where she has been a full professor since 1994 teaches and researches in the field of translation and interpreting and founded the German section. She completed several months of research and guest lectureships at various universities in Germany and Latin America as well as at the International Youth Library at Blutenburg Castle . In addition to her work as a professor, organizer of international symposia and master’s courses in DaF at the University of Alicante, she is the editor and author of scientific works and translates (children's) literature in collaboration with her students .

As part of her chairmanship of the non-profit associations Asociación Alexander von Humboldt and VAMUE ( Víctimas del Acoso Moral en las Universidades Españolas ), she is primarily committed to the defense of human rights and the support of victims of slavery and bullying .
