Iridosmium
Iridosmium is a platinum metal - alloy and a rare variety of the mineral osmium . Iridosmium itself is not recognized (discredited) as a mineral by the International Mineralogical Association . In addition to osmium, it contains the chemically similar metal iridium .
Iridosmium contains at least 55% osmium and is gray brilliant color with yellow tinge . If, on the other hand, the iridium predominates in the alloy, the variety is called Osmiridium .
Locations
Localities are in New South Wales and Tasmania , Australia ; British Columbia in Canada ; the Chinese provinces of Hebei , Sichuan and Tibet, Nová Paka in the Czech Republic , Peyrolles-en-Provence in France , South Africa , Russia and the United States ( Alaska , California , Nevada and Oregon ).
