Irma Shiolaschwili , also Irma Schiolaschwili-Britze ( Georgian ირმა შიოლაშვილი ; born March 29, 1974 in the municipality of Dedopliszqaro ), is a Georgian poet , translator and journalist .

Life

As a teenager, Irma Schiolashvili wrote poems that were published in various literary magazines.

From 1991 to 1996 she studied journalism at the University of Tbilisi . She freelanced for the cultural department of the state television and produced features on contemporary Georgian writers.

In 1992 she made her debut with the book of poems Non-Existing Word at Merani Verlag (Tbilisi). Through the mediation of Ana Kalandadze , she became one of the youngest members of the Georgian Writers' Union in 1995. In 1996, 2002 and 2009 further publications of individual titles followed.

In 1999 Irma Schiolaschwili went to Germany and studied in Bonn for a dissertation on Georgian and German political post-war poetry, with which she received her doctorate in 2005 at the Institute for Literature of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences . Since then she has been producing bilingual programs for the German-Georgian culture magazine on LoCom (Bonn) .

In 2007 she was accepted into the European authors' association Die Kogge . Shiolashvili's poems, the German-language versions of which are published by Pop Verlag , have been translated into German, English, French and Russian.

Irma Schiolaschwili lives in Bonn, where she works as an author, journalist and lecturer.
