Irmgard Lange

Irmgard Lange (born November 30, 1941 in Posen ; † May 8, 2014 in Berlin ) was a German actress and director .

Life

She spent her childhood in Dessau . After studying acting at the German National Theater in Weimar , she worked as an actress for ten years. At the same time, the first directorial work was sporadic.

The early years as a director were shaped by Dario Fo , Peter Hacks , Volker Braun , Alfonso Sastre . Then Irmgard Lange dealt intensively with the Russian avant-garde after 1917: Platonov , Bulgakow , Evgeni Schwarz . These included eight German-language premieres and four productions were invited to the Berlin Theatertage (East). This was followed by work with Shakespeare's “classics” with Romeo and Juliet , Was ihr wollt , Hamlet , A Midsummer Night's Dream , Goethe's Clavigo , Kleist's Amphytryon , Chekhov's Three Sisters and Horváth's Stories from the Vienna Woods .

From 1970 to 1987 she directed at the theater in Karl-Marx-Stadt and then for twelve years at the Dresden State Theater . There were also guest productions in Munich, St. Gallen and Bern. Her production at the Dresden State Theater of Faith, Love and Hope by Horváth was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen in 1995 . From 2001 to 2004 Irmgard Lange was senior director of drama at the Mainz State Theater . In her final years she staged at the Staatsschauspiel Stuttgart , the Lucerne Theater and the Theater Baden-Baden .

In addition to her directorial work, she regularly taught acting students as a lecturer at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig and, most recently, at the "Ernst Busch" Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin .

Irmgard Lange, mother of actress Katherina Lange , died in Berlin at the age of 72 after a brief, serious illness.
