Isaac Chansa (born March 23, 1984 in Kitwe ) is a Zambian football player . The midfielder has been under contract with the Indian Super League club NorthEast United FC since 2014 and is also active in the Zambian national team .
Career
Club career
In 2004 Chansa moved from the Zambian club Power Dynamos to the South African team Orlando Pirates . At the side of Benedict Vilakazi and the Nigerian Onyekachi Okonkwo , he formed the midfield of the Pirates. In 2005 and 2006 he was twice runner-up with Orlando in the Premier Soccer League , and he reached the semi-finals with the club in the CAF Champions League 2006 , in which the Tunisian club CS Sfaxien had to be narrowly beaten.
Chansa reached the low point of his career in December 2006 when he was banned from playing for three months for assaulting an assistant referee. In January 2007, the British coach Stuart Baxter wanted to bring the talented midfielder to the Swedish club Helsingborgs IF , but the transfer failed due to Orlando's excessive transfer fee. Half a year later, Chansa's contract expired and he moved to Sweden on a free transfer. After initial difficulties - in his first half series in Sweden he only made two league appearances in the Allsvenskan - he was able to establish himself in the team's squad in the 2008 season and was on the field in 22 of the 30 season games. After he had also convinced in the following season, the club wanted to extend the expiring contract. However, Chansa declined the offer and returned to the Orlando Pirates in South Africa.
National team
Chansa was on the Zambian Olympic team, but narrowly failed in the last qualifying round for the 2004 Olympic Games to Ghana. In 2004 he made his debut in the Zambian senior team against Mali. At the African Cup of Nations 2006 he was in the preliminary rounds of his team in all three games and was also nominated for the African Cup of Nations 2008 .
