Isaac Hoffer Doutrich

Isaac Hoffer Doutrich (born December 19, 1871 in Middletown , Pennsylvania , †  May 28, 1941 in Harrisburg , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1927 and 1937 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1880 Isaac Doutrich moved to Elizabethtown with his parents . He attended the public schools of his respective homeland as well as the Keystone State Normal School , today's Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in Kutztown . He then worked in the clothing trade in Middletown and Harrisburg. He also worked in banking and various other industries. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1924 and 1927 he was a member of the Harrisburg parish council.

In the 1926 congressional elections , Doutrich was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 19th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Joshua William Swartz on March 4, 1927 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1937 . In 1936 it was not confirmed. In his time as a congressman in the early 1930s was the Great Depression . The Roosevelt government passed the first New Deal laws in 1933 , which Doutrich's party was rather hostile to. In 1935 the provisions of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution were applied for the first time , according to which the legislative period of the Congress ends or begins on January 3rd.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Isaac Doutrich worked in Harrisburg again in the clothing trade. He died there on May 28, 1941.
