The Isaac River is a river in the east of the Australian state of Queensland . The name was given by the Prussian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt in 1845.
Surname
Ludwig Leichhardt discovered the Isaac River in 1844 on his first expedition to Australia from 1844 to 1845. The name goes back to a sponsor of Leichhardt, FN Isaac, the co-owner of the Gowrie shank farm in Queensland.
geography
River course
The river rises on the eastern slopes of Mount Ewan in the Carborough Range and initially flows south-southwest along the Denham Range . At the end of these mountains, diverted by a deep ditch, he turns his course south to the small town of Moranbah . There he turns to the southeast, under the Peak Downs Highway and the Fitzroy Developmental Road near Bombandy . Along the Broadsound Range it continues its way to the southeast and flows into the Mackenzie River at its southern end .
