The Iskaraberg is a wooded hill (637 m above sea level) southeast of Sophienthal, a district of the Markt Weidenberg ( district of Bayreuth ) in the southwestern Fichtel Mountains . Immediately to the west of the mountain runs the valley of the Warm Steinach . Mountains and forests are owned by the Bavarian state, the Fichtelberg forestry company is responsible.

Name interpretation

Earlier spellings were Ißgur, Isgur, Ißkera or Iscara, which is interpreted as "mountain near the meadow hollow".

Watershed

The watershed between the Main and the Naab runs over the Iskaraberg .

Former mining

In 1511 and 1516, various citizens were given the right to speculate iron ore. The ore was processed in hammer mills in nearby Sophienthal. The Maxhütte's right to speculate on the Iskara I and Iskara II shafts did not expire until 1934.

Tourist use

To the north of Sophienthal there is a parking lot for hikers with various circular routes. The circular hiking trail no. 6 leads around the Iskaraberg.
