Maldivian (officially Island Aviation Services ) is the national airline of the Maldives , based in Malé and based at Malé International Airport .

history

Maldivian was founded on April 13, 2000 as Island Aviation Services by the government of the Maldives. The state still owns all of the shares, making it the only state airline in the country. Since August 25, 2008, the company has been operating under the Maldivian brand identity . Along with Trans Maldivian Airways, it is also the only airline in the country that offers domestic services with land planes.

In September 2008 a former De Havilland DHC-8-300 of Augsburg Airways was added to the fleet. The transfer flight started in Cairns on September 11, 2008 and led via Darwin , Bali , Singapore , Port Blair and Colombo to Malé. In January 2012 Maldivian took over another DHC-8-300 from the Austrian company Intersky .

In addition to the flight service, Maldivian also offers ground handling , freight services , maintenance and other services and also operates an airport lounge at Malé International Airport.

Destinations

The four national airports are served from Malé ; international connections exist in the Asian region . At the moment there is also a cooperation with Condor , which has been flying direct to Gan since May 2009 . The start of a connection to South Africa is planned (as of August 2017).
