features

The Bunte Wucherblume is an annual plant that reaches heights of 10 to 80, sometimes up to 100 centimeters. The stem is not or only slightly branched. The alternate leaves are stalked or sessile, have a length of 25 to over 50 mm and a width of 15 to over 30 mm.

The basket-shaped inflorescences have a diameter from 4.5 to 10 centimeters and contain 13 to 21 tongue (ray florets) and 80 to about 150 zwittrige florets (disc florets). The bracts are keeled and multi-nerved. The tridentate ray-florets are yellow or reddish, dark or white at the base. They are often tri-colored and their base is pale with a darker zone above. In the upper part they are paler. The five-lobed tubular flowers are black-red or purple.

The flowering period extends from June to September.

The fruit is an achenes without a pappus . The ray-florets develop achenes that are winged triangular in cross-section, while the tubular florets have a laterally flattened cross-section.
