Isthmian League 2008/09

The 2008/09 season of the Isthmian League was the 93rd season in the history of the league. Again she formed levels 3 and 4 in the National League system with the Northern Premier League and the Southern League .

In the Premier Division, promoted Dover Athletic made the march and rose together with the play-off winner Staines Town in the Conference South . The FC Margate spared later the descent into the Division One.

In addition to FC Aveley , FC Waltham Abbey also achieved promotion to the Premier Division via the play-off round . The two bottom of the table Witham Town and Hillingdon Borough had to leave the Isthmian League at the end of the season.

In addition to Kingstonian FC , the Cray Wanderers rose from the southern season, while Crowborough Athletic had to relegate last year . The FC Chipstead escaped relegation retrospectively because not enough clubs from the divisions below exercised their right to promotion.

Isthmian League Cup

The Isthmian League Cup, the league-internal cup competition in which all 66 teams participated, was held for the 35th time. In the final on Wheatsheaf Lane in Staines Town, Tilbury FC beat Harrow Borough 2-0 and won the competition for the second time - the first title came in 1974 when it was first played.

Performing in national cup competitions

FA Cup

All 66 teams of the Isthmian League took part in the FA Cup 2008/09 , the 44 teams of Division One started in the pre-qualifying round, the teams of the Premier Division one round later in the first qualifying round. A total of three teams from the Premier Division survived the fourth qualifying round and thus reached the first main round. There, Sutton United (0: 1 against Notts County , League Two), AFC Hornchurch (0: 1 against Peterborough United , League One) and Harlow Town (0: 2 against Macclesfield Town , League Two) all three remaining participants of the Isthmian failed League to clubs from the professional camp.

FA Trophy

At the FA Trophy 2008/09 all 66 league participants also started, with Wingate & Finchley only one club in the northern season reached the first main round, where the team lost 1: 3 to Farnborough FC (Southern League Premier Division).
