The Itztal and Effeldertal nature reserve near Weißenbrunn vorm Wald is located in the municipality of the town of Rödental in the Upper Franconian district of Coburg in Bavaria .
The nature reserve east of the Rödental district of Weißenbrunn vorm Wald , which has existed as such since December 1, 1997, protects the valley areas of the two rivers Itz and Effelder at their confluence with the artificially dammed Froschgrundsee .
It consists of four individual areas that are close to one another:
- Itz valley area - northwest of the Froschgrundsee
- Valley area of the Effelder - northeast of the Froschgrundsee
- Shore area on the west side of the Froschgrundsee
- Shore area on the southeast side of the Froschgrundsee
The area includes the valley areas with natural streams, educated Ufergehölzsäume, Bach reeds , wet meadows , sedge marshes and Hochstaudenfluren .
history
In 1991 the government of Upper Franconia considered the designation of the nature reserve - with a size of 89 hectares planned at the time - to be urgently required. The recorded bird species also included threatened species such as the kingfisher , black stork and white stork .
In the course of the high-speed line Nuremberg – Erfurt planned since 1991 and currently under construction , the planning approval for the required bridge over the Froschgrundsee took place in 1995, before the designation of the nature reserve was completed in 1997. The Froschgrundsee viaduct, completed in 2011, and the Thuringian electricity bridge's 380 kV overhead line, which went into operation in 2015, span the Froschgrundsee and partially run through the nature reserve.
