Ivan Baranka (born May 19, 1985 in Ilava , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Vítkovice in the Czech extra league since 2016 .
Career
Ivan Baranka began his career as a hockey player at HK Spartak Dubnica , he for the 2002/03 season his debut in the Extraliga was. In two games he remained pointless and punished. Before that, Baranka had played for Dubnica in the youth division for several years. After the season he was selected in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as a total of 50th player by the New York Rangers . Initially, however, the Slovak played for two years for the Everett Silvertips , who had drawn him in the first round of the CHL Import Draft as a total of second player from the Western Hockey League . Before the 2005/06 season , Baranka was included in the squad of New York's farm team , the Hartford Wolf Pack from the American Hockey League , for which he was almost exclusively active for the following three years. Only during the 2007/08 season was Baranka once for the New York Rangers on the ice when he made his debut in the National Hockey League , in which he scored an assist. After the season Baranka signed a contract with HK Spartak Moscow from the newly founded Continental Hockey League . For Spartak, Baranka completed 218 KHL games in the following four game years, in which he collected 90 points scorer. During the 2011/12 season he was also one of his team's assistant captains.
In May 2012, Baranka moved within the KHL to Salawat Julajew Ufa , again a year later to HK Awangard Omsk . For Awangard he completed 47 KHL games in which he collected 20 points scorer. Since the club missed the KHL playoffs, Baranka took part with this in the Nadezhda Cup 2014 and ultimately won the KHL cup competition. He was then signed by HC Slovan Bratislava in July 2014 .
International
For Slovakia , Baranka took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championships in 2003 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2004 and 2005 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 2009 , 2011 and 2012 World Championships , as well as the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi .
