Ivan Jovanović (Cyrillic: Иван Јовановић; born July 8, 1962 in Loznica , Serbia ) is a former Serbian football player . And was the head coach of the United Arab Emirates national team from 2019 to 2020 .
Career
society
At the beginning of his career, Jovanović played in the first team of his home club FK Loznica until 1984 . He then moved to the 1st Yugoslav soccer league and played for FK Rad from 1987 to 1989 . He then moved to the Greek club Iraklis Thessaloniki and played there for 10 seasons. In 1999 he ended his active football career.
Trainer
Jovanović started his coaching career in 2001 with Niki Volos and was also a coach at Iraklis Thessaloniki , Panachaiki and APOEL Nicosia , where he worked in 2008 and achieved his greatest successes. In total, he won eight titles with the Cypriots . He also led the club to the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in club history in 2009 and, two years later, to the quarter-finals of the Champions League after beating Olympique Lyon , which they lost to Real Madrid . So Jovanović is the most successful trainer at APOEL of all time.
In the summer of 2013 he moved to the United Arab Emirates , where he succeeded Walter Zenga at al-Nasr . In December 2019, Jovanović became the head coach of the United Arab Emirates national team and his contract was terminated in April 2020.
