Iver Kristian Bjerkestrand (born July 7, 1987 in Lørenskog ) is a Norwegian ski racer . In his strongest discipline, giant slalom , he became Norwegian champion in 2009 .

biography

Bjerkestrand contested his first FIS races in November 2002, but only gradually reached the top positions. In January 2006 he finished in the top three for the first time, but he had to wait another two years until his first win. The Norwegian was never used in the Junior World Championships, and he only started in the European Cup from the 2007/08 season . After he was now regularly on the podium at FIS races, he achieved eighth place in the giant slalom of Jasná and tenth place in the giant slalom of Madesimo as the best results in his first winter of the European Cup . However, he only achieved his next top 10 placement two years later towards the end of the 2009/2010 season . At his only start in the Nor-Am Cup on January 6, 2010 in the giant slalom at Sunday River , however, he immediately celebrated a victory. In the Australian New Zealand Cup in 2010 he finished third overall, tied with New Zealander Ben Griffin .

In April 2009 Bjerkestrand became Norwegian champion in giant slalom, leaving some world class runners behind, such as Aksel Lund Svindal . On November 27, 2010, the Norwegian achieved his first podium in the European Cup with third place in the Trysil giant slalom . In the World Cup Bjerkestrand took the first time in the 2008/2009 season in races. For the time being, however, it was rarely used and has not yet won any points. Since the 2010/2011 season he has started more often in the World Cup. He won his first World Cup points on March 11, 2011 when he finished 26th in the Super-G in Kvitfjell . During the 2011/2012 season he could never classify himself in the points. After the 2012/2013 season was initially similar, he achieved his best World Cup result so far on March 3, 2013 with 17th place in the Kvitfjell Super-G.
