Iwa Nikolowa Widenowa-Kuljašević (spelling for the World Chess Federation FIDE Iva Videnova-Kuljasevic , Bulgarian Ива Николова Виденова ; born October 17, 1987 as Iwa Widenowa in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian chess player .

Life

Iwa Widenowa, 2008

She learned to play chess from her grandfather at the age of four, but did not play her first tournaments until she was 13. She was trained by the international master Dimitar Marholew. Then she worked with IM Nikolay Ninov , IM Valentin Panbukdschian , GM Vladimir Dimitrov and IM Nanko Dobrew . Iwa Widenowa studied chess at the Bulgarian State Academy of Sports in Sofia, where Wesselin Topalow , Antoaneta Stefanowa and Silvia Collas also studied.

She works as a chess trainer in Dubai and has been married to the Croatian grandmaster Davorin Kuljašević since 2016 .

successes

In 2007 and 2008 she won the Bulgarian women's championship in blitz chess . In the Bulgarian individual championships for women , she took third place in 2008, fourth place in 2009 and second place in 2010. She won the championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

In 2007 she received the title of FIDE Women 's Master (WFM), and since January 2010 she has been International Women's Master (WIM), exceeding all three standards for the WIM title. She has held the title of Grand Master of Women (WGM) since June 2011. She achieved the norms for this in July 2009 at the 8th International Open in La Fère , in December 2010 at the 23rd Trophy Belgrade and with overachievement in February 2011 in the A Open of the 10th International Festival in Rochefort-sur-Mer . She achieved a standard for obtaining the title of International Master (IM) at the 2011 European Women's Team Championship . The WGM standard from Rochefort-sur-Mer was also an IM standard, and Widenowa met a third IM standard in September 2014 at the Med SLAMA Memorial in Monastir, Tunisia . However, since she has not yet achieved the Elo of at least 2400 required to be awarded the IM title, the title was awarded in November 2014 only with reservation of the Elo. In February 2015, she achieved the required Elo rating and has been holding the IM title ever since.

With her highest rating to date of 2401, Widenowa was in February 2015 behind Antoaneta Stefanowa in second place in the Bulgarian women's ranking.

With Bulgaria, Iwa Widenowa took part in the women's chess Olympiads in 2010 , 2012 , 2014 and 2016 as well as in the women's team championships in 2009, 2011 and 2013. In 2011 she achieved the third-best individual result on the second board.
