Ivan Anatoljewitsch Podschiwalow ( Russian Иван Анатольевич Подшивалов ; born April 4, 1982 in Kolomna , Soviet Union ) is a Russian rower .

Career

Podschiwalow started rowing at the age of 9 in 1991 and rowed for the first time internationally in 2000 at the Junior World Championships in Singles , where he finished 18th. He then started three times at the U23 World Championships between 2002 and 2004 and won a bronze medal in a double scull on his last start . From 2003 Podschiwalow was also used in the open age group in the Russian national team. In the sculled double scull he only reached the D final for 19th to 24th place during his premiere at the 2003 World Championships .

In 2005 and 2006 Podschiwalow did not row internationally, after which he returned to the oar area . With the Russian men's eighth , he prepared for the World Championships in Munich at the World Cups in Linz and Lucerne . At the World Cup final in Lucerne, medical articles indicating doping offenses were found in the garbage can of the hotel of the Russian delegation, which could be assigned to the rowers Alexander Litwinzew , Yevgeny Lusjanin and Ivan Podschiwalow from the men's eighth by DNA analysis . At the World Championships, the Russian boat started and reached the finals with a second place in the semifinals, from which she was then knocked out. The three convicted rowers were banned at the beginning of 2008 for two years starting on August 27, 2007.

It was not until 2010 that Podschiwalow was able to return to active rowing. With the Russian eighth he reached 5th place at the European Championships and 11th place at the World Championships . In the following year he slipped into the four without a helmsman for the world championships , which only finished 20th, but then returned to the eighth, which was fourth at the European championships . In the qualifying regatta for the 2012 Summer Olympics , he missed a starting place with the Russian four-man without a starting place in London.

After a year of break, Podschiwalow qualified again for the Russian eighth in 2014 and immediately won the silver medal behind the Germany eighth at the European Championships in Belgrade. At the world championships later in the year, with 6th place in the same boat class, she made it to the finals. In 2015 he won bronze at the European Championships and finished 5th at the World Championships in Aiguebelette.

In the 2016 Olympic season, Podschiwalow initially rowed with Georgi Jefremenko in two without a helmsman in order to qualify this boat class at the Lucerne Regatta for the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. After the necessary second place was clearly missed by four seconds and the duo was only able to take seventh place at the European Championships , both moved back into the men's foursome that had already qualified for Rio. Shortly before the Olympic Games, Podschiwalow was initially disqualified by the World Rowing Association as a result of the Russian state doping affair. After investigating the McLaren Report , the International Olympic Committee recommended that international federations exclude all Russian athletes with a history of doping. Because of the ban in 2007, this applied to Podschiwalow, and Anastassija Karabelschtschikowa was disqualified from the women's eighth place. The decision was overturned by the International Sports Court (CAS) and Podschiwalow was then considered eligible to start. However, since the Russian rowing team was unable to occupy numerous boats due to banned athletes and there was no more space for him in the remaining four without, he could not take part in the Olympic Games.

At a height of 1.96 m, Ivan Podschiwalows competition weight is around 96 kg. He starts for the Dinamo Moscow club .
