Ivan Mychajlowytsch Kamanin ( Ukrainian Іван Михайлович Каманін , Russian Иван Михайлович Каманин Ivan Mikhailovich Kamanin ; born September 11 . Jul / 23. September  1850 greg. In Dymer , Kiev Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 11. January 1921 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian historian , archivist and paleographer .

Life

Ivan Kamanin graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology at the St. Vladimir University in Kiev in 1872 , where he studied with Volodymyr Antonovych and Mychajlo Drahomanow . From 1883 he worked for 40 years in the Kiev Central Archives of Old Documents , from 1890 as its director. From 1918 he taught students at the Kiev Institute of Archeology in archival science and Paläologie. He died at the age of 70 in Kiev and was buried there.

Kamanin wrote numerous articles and works on the history of the Cossacks , on the history of Ukraine in the 16th and 17th centuries, on Ukrainian palaeography from the 15th to 18th centuries, as well as on archeology and archival studies.
